New Aluminum Dryer with 30% Greater Throughput
December 5, 2024: In the Rotary Processing Equipment industry (Industrial Kilns and Dryers), Finch Manufacturing is the only ISO 9001:2015 certified company and our customers return to Finch for our high-quality products and real solutions. Due to the trust our customers have in Finch Manufacturing, a long-term customer, a lead in aluminum recycling, contracted with Finch to provide a new dryer with at least 30% more throughput.

Our engineers designed the enhanced and more efficient system. We provided weekly updates for the customer with status, open items, and pictures to validate the exact status of the project. The Finch Manufacturing engineers supervised and led the assembly, installation, commissioning, and testing of the new kiln.”
The Finch Manufacturing engineering team visited the site and reviewed the project requirements in detail with the customer. The new dryer’s overall footprint had to remain the same but provide 30% greater throughput. The engineering team determined the required increase in HP and designed a modern and upgraded drive system and support structure. Finch worked closely with the customer and provided detailed engineering, technical, and layout drawings. Finch Manufacturing provided the customer a weekly project update that listed status, any open items, critical path items, and even pictures of exact status in an easy to follow one page report.
Finch designed and built the base frames with machined surfaces to ensure all bearings were on the same plane and the required 30” diameter trunnions which Finch had standardized previously for the customer at all their sites. The new drive system with greater HP, spare motor, and thrust rollers were built and assembled at the Finch plant in West Pittston. The install included a leaf seal system to assist with the overall efficiency of the new dryer.
Finch Manufacturing worked in sync with the customer and created a detailed outage plan to include off site storage and delivery of the components which was critical since this was a winter install. The Finch team provided all manpower, project management, and equipment to assemble and install the new system.
Finch Manufacturing provided start-up support as well as hands on training and operational and maintenance manuals. The next part of the install was the throughput test and the new dryer surpassed the required 30% increase in throughput.
Finch Manufacturing provided Quarterly Inspections on this and the other systems on site to ensure the most efficient operation of the system and continued to train the on-site personnel.
